    UNSW is organising a free HIA and local government seminar at Flat Floor Theatre, UNSW CBD Campus, 1 O’Connell St, Sydney on Tuesday 22/05/18 from 10.00 am to 12 noon (Monday, 21 May 8pm Eastern/ 5pm Pacific for our US members).

    This seminar will also be streamed live.  If you are unable to attend in person, you can watch the seminar live via this link: 
    http://www.hospitality.unsw.edu.au/livestream on 22 May at 10am, Sydney time.  No online registration is needed.  
     
    This seminar will focus on the use of health impact assessment at the local government level in Québec City, Korea, and in Sydney. The seminar will examine:
     
    • HIAs that have been done locally and internationally
    • how HIA can add value to local government
    • the opportunities and future directions for collaboration

    Don't miss this HIA 101 coming up in June!

    SOPHIA is partnering with NEHA to present an HIA 101 Class as a pre-conference session at NEHA’s Annual Educational Conference in Anaheim, CA on June 24 from 10-5 PT. Jimmy Dills of the Georgia Health Policy Center and SOPHIA will lead this one day hands-on course that will give you the knowledge and background to consider HIA as a part of your EH practice. The cost for NEHA members is $100 and $150 for non-members. Register here.

    The American Public Health Association's 145th Annual Meeting and Exposition is quickly approaching! From November 4-8 2017 the world's largest public health conference will take place in Atlanta, Georgia. There will be a number of opportunities to hear from your fellow HIA practitioners.     MDH Seeks Passionate Individual to Join their Climate & Health and HIA Program Team

    Interested in engaging Minnesotans about the health impacts of climate change? Ready to utilize the Health Impact Assessment (HIA) process to create more equitable, healthier communities? The Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) is looking for a program planner to join our team and play an instrumental role in forwarding HIA and climate and health strategies in Minnesota.  We’re looking for someone who is passionate about bringing innovative strategies to the public sector, managing a range of projects, and building cross-sector capacity to protect, maintain, and improve the health of all Minnesotans.     In an effort to document HIA practice in the climate change sector, SOPHIA members Andy Dannenberg and Bethany Rogerson are seeking your help to identify projects that have addressed HIAs on climate change policy. If you are aware of an HIA not currently tagged as “climate change” on the Health Impact Project map, please reach out to Bethany Rogerson (brogerson@pewtrusts.org) by Monday, September 18th. The information will be used to generate a paper summarizing and discussing how HIA has been applied in this context. Thank you in advance!
