The Minimum Elements and Practice Standards for Health Impact Assessment (MEPS) outlines the minimum criteria that an health impact assessment (HIA) should address, as well as best practices for conducting it. The MEPS is not a long, technical, step-by-step instruction manual for completing an HIA; rather it defines what needs to be included in a project for it to be considered an HIA. The document can be used by practitioners as both a guidance document and a tool to assess HIA work.
Following the spring 2019 Practitioner Workshop held in St. Paul, Minnesota, a working group began the first MEPS update in five years.
The open comment period for the MEPS update is now closed. The new MEPS will be released in early 2022. Please contact Emily Bever (firstname.lastname@example.org) with any questions about this update.
